There are many different current events related to homosexuality recently. The one’s that I can think of are
- Same Sex Marriage
- “Don’t ask, don’t tell” in the Military
- Homosexual Boy Scout Troop Leaders
- Duck Dynasty stance on homosexuality
- Russia’s law banning “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations to minors”
I am not going to attempt to dissect any of these topics and discuss where I stand. For starters, it doesn’t matter where I stand on any of these topics. The only “opinion” that matters is God’s. No matter what society states or how hard we may be persecuted, we must seek to understand God’s word. Second, I think these topics deserve us to study and prepare our answers instead of just adopting someone else’s response. Third, I do not think I could concisely cover any one of these topics much less all of them.
I decided to write about this topic because this is one of those topics that Christian’s need to understand and follow. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people that are looking to you to see how you respond/react. I am challenging you to determine where you stand on these topics because you have more opportunity than ever to teach God’s word.
The difficult part of this issue is probably not understanding where you stand, but at how and when do you stand up for truth, while at the same time not cause unnecessary harm.
We should be prepared to answer these tough questions, because we may cause more harm than good if we do not articulate ourselves well or use the opportunities God has given us.
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. (Colossians 4:6)
1 Samuel 15:22 and John 14:15 both describe how we should obey the Lord.
And Samual said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22 ESV)
If you love me, you will keep my commandments (John 14:15 ESV)
Jesus knew that he would lose disciples if he didn’t watch what he said but this still did not stop him from speaking the truth (Example from John 6:60 – 66)
When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “this is a hard saying; who can listen to it? (John 6: 60 ESV) And he said, “this is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father” (John 6: 65 ESV) After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him (John 6: 66 ESV)
I pray that we all may seek and find the truth and appropriately share the gospel of Jesus.
