Who We Are
Who We Are
We are a group of Christians who meet throughout the semester for devotionals, Bible studies, game nights, movie nights, cookouts, etc. We also plan various events throughout the semester to include hiking trips, trips to amusements parks and retreats.
Tuesday Night Devotionals
Every Tuesday night that school is in session, students from local colleges and universities gather at the “College House” on 708 West Maple Street for an evening of fellowship, singing, and study of God’s Word. We offer a free meal at 6:30PM with our Bible study starting promptly at 7:08PM. These devotionals are great opportunities for college students to grow closer to each other and to God.
Wednesday Night Bible Study
Every Wednesday night at 7PM many of our college students meet together with the Central Church of Christ for an evening of Bible study. Central Church of Christ meets at 2722 East Oakland Ave.
Sunday Bible Study and Worship
Every Sunday Morning at 9:15AM many of our college students meet at the building of the Central Church of Christ for Bible study, immediately followed by worship with the rest of the congregation at 10:15AM. Later in the evening, the Central Church of Christ meets again for evening worship at 6PM. We encourage all of our students to make every effort to attend worship at a local congregation of the Lord’s Church!
About 708 Ministries
708 Ministries is supported by the Central Church of Christ in Johnson City, Tennessee and is directly overseen by their Eldership. Dustin Humphreys serves as our Campus Minister.
We are not a separate congregation or our own church. We do not seek to replace local congregations of the Lord’s church, but to supplement them. We encourage all of the students who attend 708 Ministries events to find a biblically sound congregation of the Lord’s Church to attend for Sunday morning and Wednesday evening worship.
708 Ministries’ mission is to show the love of Christ and preach the gospel on college and university campuses in the Tri-Cities area. Our desire is to fulfill the great commission that was given by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:18-20.
We adhere to no man-made doctrine and seek to use the Bible and the Bible alone as our sole source of authority. We endeavor to be like the Bereans from Acts 17:11 who searched the scriptures daily to make sure what they were being told was the truth.
A Biblical phrase that well describes our mission is found in Ephesians 4:15: “speaking the truth in love.” When it comes to matters that are clearly taught in the word of God, we aim to speak the truth, whether that truth is popular or not.
In all matters, we aim to speak and to act out of love. If “God so loved the world,” (John 3:16 ) then so should we. That’s why we try hard to make sure that every student that attends our devotionals or events feel welcome.
